Artist's Statement

Photography, to me, is simply art—and art is meant to be subjective.

It all started with a memory: coming across an old photo album from a high school photography class my dad took. Among the pages was a picture he captured of my mom before they were married. The way he used the light in that dim room stopped me in my tracks, and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. By high school, photography was the very first elective I signed up for.

Over the years, the camera has taken me down many paths—from early weddings and portraits to the technical evolution of earning a web design degree, exploring the newest gear, and diving into the worlds of wildlife, travel, and landscape photography.

The name LunarStarr reaches back to my roots. "Luna" came from my years as an Outdoor School student leader and camp counselor—a nod to a lifelong affection for the moon, which has a way of following us wherever we go, reminding us we are standing under the very same sky as our families and ancestors. The "Starr" with two rs honors my only sister and her middle name.

Today, my focus is entirely on the art of the image. I am always drawn to the water, the way light falls on a pristine landscape, the quiet stillness of the night sky, and the raw presence of wildlife in its element. I love the technical craft of handling the camera, testing out the latest gear—from action cameras to drones—and keeping my trusted Nikon close at hand.

I don't need the work to shout. If an image makes you pause, if it invites you to reflect on the subject, or simply brings a moment of enjoyment and connection, then it has done its job.

Thank you for stopping by, and for spending a little time under the same moon.
